Substance Abuse Assessment
In North Carolina, people who are convicted of a DWI are required to get a substance abuse assessment, also commonly referred to as a DWI assessment. The substance abuse assessment is designed to make a recommendation for any treatment or drug and alcohol classes that you may need to complete. The assessment will recommend one of five levels of substance abuse treatment:
You cannot receive a Limited Driving Privilege without first getting a substance abuse assessment. Additionally, a substance abuse assessment is a mitigating factor for the court to consider, which can reduce the level of punishment.
In North Carolina, the cost of a substance abuse assessment is $100.00. The $100.00 fee is established by the State and may not be more or less.
